Author Interview

Tuesday Talk – Kimberly Rose Johnson

ღ(¯`v´¯)ღ About Kimberly Rose Johnson ღ(¯`v´¯)ღ¸

Award-winning author Kimberly Rose Johnson married her college sweetheart and lives in the Pacific Northwest. From a young child, Kimberly has been an avid reader. That love of reading fostered a creative mind and led to her passion for writing. She especially loves romance and writes contemporary romance and romantic mystery and suspense with a heart.
Kimberly holds a degree in Behavioral Science from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington, and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers.

Hi Kimberly,
Tell us a little about yourself and how you were raised.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and generally set my books in either Washington or Oregon since I’ve lived in both states. I am published in contemporary Christian romance, romantic mystery, and romantic suspense.
I was raised in a Christian home by my mom and my dad. I have fond memories of going home with friends after Sunday morning service then meeting back up with my parents at the evening service. It was fun to have friends over to my house too.

Can you share with us a book you have read recently, are currently reading?

I am currently reading Protective Custody by JL Crosswhite. It’s a romantic suspense and pretty good. Another book I read recently was a contemporary Christian romance by Denise Hunter called Boookshop by the Sea. I would recommend both books.

How long does it normally take you to write your books?

If I’m focused and don’t have distractions, I can write a book in three to four months. I can write a novella in two to three weeks.

Do you normally use an outline for the books you write, or do you just start with a few ideas?

I start with the general idea of the story and go from there. LOL it’s not the most efficient way to write but it works for me.

What do you come up with first, when you begin a new project?

I know the setting first then I come up with my characters and their story.

Is there a special place you like to write?

I sit at my desk and write. For most of my writing career I sat in a recliner with a laptop on my lap, but this past year I started getting significant pain from the computer while on my lap. I never thought about the radiation from a laptop but after looking into it, I believe that was the cause of my pain. Now I am careful to keep it off my legs.

Tell us about this book.

My most recent release is Dark Threat. It’s book four in my Protection Inc. series. Here’s the back cover blurb.

Reporter Trinity Lockhart pursues a story but then unwittingly becomes the story.

Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, Trinity investigates an art trafficking ring at a high-end Seattle gallery. She turns to handsome FBI agent Kyle Richards for help after being spotted by the crooks.

Kyle is drawn to the feisty reporter, but he can’t afford a beautiful distraction when lives are at stake. He must trust his friends at Protection Inc. to watch over Trinity while he investigates the gallery.

Will this couple overcome the impossible odds threatening to keep them apart?

Read Dark Threat today.

What was your inspiration for starting this book or series?

When I was pre-published I wrote Direct Threat the first book in the series. I set in in Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast. My agent was unable to sell that book, so I decided to dust it off, edit thoroughly and create a series out of it. The rest of the series takes place in the Seattle area.

What character do you like best?

Frank. He’s like the dad of the team and in every book in the series.

How do you feel writing has affected your relationship with God?

Writing has definitely drawn me closer to Him. I depend on Him greatly to guide my writing.

What advice would you give a new author?

Read a lot. Read well-written books in the genre you want to write. By doing this you will find your writing will improve and you learn the market.

What project is next on your list?

I’m currently working on a book that I am co-writing. It’s an adaptation of a movie that she was contracted to write and then she brought me in on the project.

Where do we find you and your books?

All of my books are in Kindle Unlimited, so the ebooks are exclusive there. My print books should be available at most online book retailers.

  1. Hi Naomi, thanks for your kind wishes! I wouldn’t call my books thrillers. They are more suspense with some mystery and romance. One reviewer suggested we start a new genre and call them cozy suspense because they aren’t as scary as one would expect in a thriller.

  2. I wish Kimberly all the best on her writing journey. It’s interesting that she has mixed the two genres of romance and thriller into one. Thanks for sharing her story.
