Said is an important word in the written language, but often it’s over used. Any word can be, but this one is most notorious for being abused.  It’s easy to  get caught in the trap of being overly redundant, and this can make for some extremely mountainous reading.

Keep in mind that these are not synonyms for said, but, when used appropriately, can give the correct expression to the sentence. Try adding new word sprinkled into your writing.
