Tuesday Talks – Author Interview – LaTan Roland Murphy

Today’s interview is with LaTan Roland Murphy. LaTan is a speaker, vocalist, and freelance writer. She has a passion for encouraging people to live life to the fullest.  Hi LaTan, tell us a little about yourself and how you were raised.

I was raised in a Christian home with strong and faithful parents who served God, each other, their church, and family well.

What’s your favorite genre to read and write? Who’s your favorite author?

Nonfiction. I write nonfiction as well. My favorite Authors:

Anne G. Lotz
Nicholas Sparks

What age did you realize you loved books? When did you start writing?

I realized I liked books and loved writing when I was in fourth grade. I had a wonderful English teacher who inspired me with poem memorization.  Each week she would give each of us a poem to memorize and on Friday we would each stand in front of the class to recite our poem.  This came easy for me where other subjects, not so much.  Ha! That year, I loved “library day”, too!  I would check out the same wordless book and recreate a storyline that was different each time, based on the pictures.

Tell us about this book. What did you learn about yourself through writing it?

My book is titled Courageous Women of the Bible:

Eleven women of the Bible are highlighted.
There are questions at the end of each chapter for small group and Bible study use.
There is also a journal section in the back of the book with a page correlating to each chapter. This is for personal times of reflecting and noting how each chapter spoke into the reader’s life.
This book transformed my life.  I found myself in the lives of each of the eleven women of the Bible and could relate to their fears and their struggles in very real and tangible ways.  I wept as I wrote some of it.  Good tears… the kind that purges a woman’s heart.

Do you normally use an outline for the books you write, or do you just start with a few ideas?

Both. But, my initial proposal is always my plumb line.

Is there a special place you like to write?

My office or my favorite coffee shop.
Sometimes, I need a change of environment.

What was something that surprised you in the way this book unfolded?

I was surprised to find how although these women lived thousands of years ago, their stories and circumstances of life are still inspirational and applicable, today.
I loved each character – each woman displayed courage in a way I need it – each and every day.

What advice would you give a new author?

Go easy… Be consistent… Consecrate yourself fully to your mission.

What project are you working on now and how do we find your books?

Marketing and promoting Courageous Women of the Bible.

Where can we find your books?

Can be found in Barnes and Noble store, Lifeway Christian bookstores, online at Amazon, Books A Million, etc…
